Tripura Animal Resource Development Department Minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday urged the administration to take stricter measures to prevent cattle slaughter in different parts of the state.
In a Facebook post shared on May 27, the minister appealed to authorities to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and ensure stricter monitoring against cow slaughter activities across Tripura.
“I am making a special request to the administration to take stricter steps to stop cow slaughter in various parts of the state of Tripura,” Das said in his statement.

The minister’s remarks have drawn attention amid continuing debates in several northeastern states regarding cattle slaughter, animal protection laws, and religious sentiments linked to cow protection.

Sudhangshu Das said cows hold deep religious importance in Hindu society and remain closely connected with cultural and spiritual traditions.
“In Hinduism, the cow is respected as ‘Gau-Mata’ or mother due to several deep-rooted religious beliefs and traditions. So let us all work together to ensure the protection of Gau-Mata,” he added.
The minister stressed that people should collectively support efforts aimed at protecting cows and preventing illegal slaughter activities.
