The family of Shariful Miah, the 26-year-old electrician whose brutal murder shocked Tripura, has called for exemplary punishment for all those involved in his killing. His body was discovered stuffed inside an ice-cream freezer in the Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district.
Shariful’s parents, grieving and outraged, are now demanding swift legal action as public anger grows. They plan to appeal directly to Chief Minister Manik Saha, seeking strictest punishment for the six individuals arrested in the case.
Relationship Led to Fatal Rivalry
Shariful, a resident of Masjidpara in Agartala, was in a romantic relationship with a 20-year-old woman. According to police sources, jealousy and rivalry surrounding this relationship may have led to his murder. Investigators revealed that the woman’s cousin also had an interest in her, which allegedly sparked tension and conflict.
Sources close to the family say Shariful left his home last week and never returned. His body was discovered two days later in a freezer in an abandoned house. Police acted swiftly and arrested six suspects, all reportedly known to the woman or her cousin.
Political Leaders Condemn the Incident
The case has drawn attention from top political leaders in Tripura. Papia Dutta, BJP state vice president, visited Shariful’s home and met with his family. Dutta expressed shock and sympathy, assuring the family that the state government would ensure justice.
Shariful’s father, Alamgir Miah, told reporters,
“We lost our only son in the most inhumane way. We will meet the Chief Minister and demand that his killers receive the punishment they truly deserve.”
He further added that he hopes no other family suffers such horror in the future.
