Routine Check Leads to Major Drug Seizure
In a major anti-drug operation, police in Tripura’s Dhalai district seized 110 kilograms of dry cannabis during a routine vehicle checking drive on Sunday. The operation took place under Kamalpur Police Station.
Police conducted the naka checking at Srirampur Naka on March 8 at around 11:05 AM. Officers had set up the checkpoint as part of a wider effort to curb drug trafficking in the region.
During the operation, the police team noticed a Super Carry Mini Pickup approaching from the Khowai side toward Kamalpur. The vehicle appeared suspicious, which prompted officers to signal the driver to stop for inspection.

Driver Attempts to Escape Police Check
Instead of stopping, the driver ignored the signal and tried to speed past the checkpoint. His action immediately raised suspicion among the officers.
Alert police personnel quickly moved into action. They intercepted the vehicle before it could travel further and brought it under control.
The officers then began a detailed inspection of the vehicle.
Hidden Chamber Used to Transport Cannabis
During the search, police discovered a specially built hidden chamber inside the mini pickup. Smugglers had designed the compartment to secretly transport illegal substances.
When officers opened the chamber, they found a large quantity of dry cannabis stored inside. The recovered contraband weighed about 110 kilograms.
Police immediately confiscated the cannabis and secured the vehicle for investigation.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
Police registered a case at Kamalpur Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officers also added provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act in connection with the case.
Officials said the operation highlights the strong resolve of Dhalai district police to curb drug trafficking. Authorities have increased surveillance and vehicle checks in several areas of the district.
Investigation Underway
Police have started a detailed investigation to identify the people involved in the smuggling attempt. Officers are also trying to trace the source and intended destination of the seized cannabis.
Officials believe the operation may lead to further arrests as the investigation progresses.
Law enforcement agencies in Tripura continue to strengthen anti-drug operations to stop the illegal transport of narcotics across the state.
