Tripura VC polls enter a key preparation phase as the State Election Commission (SEC) prints ballot papers and prepares election-duty staff to vote before polling day. Officials and personnel assigned to election work will cast their votes on September 22 and 23 through the prescribed postal voting process.
The Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will take place on September 28. Counting is scheduled for October 5, with the SEC continuing training, ballot production and other logistical preparations ahead of polling.
Ballot printing moves ahead at Government Press
Tripura VC polls require ballot papers because voting will take place through paper ballots rather than electronic voting machines. The SEC has started printing the papers at the Government Press, where a dedicated team is working to complete the task within the required schedule.
SEC Secretary Anurag Sen said the printing process is progressing at the press and that the ballots will be delivered before the specified time. The work is one of several logistical steps now running alongside personnel training and arrangements for advance voting.
Meanwhile, the SEC is also preparing the materials and personnel needed across the polling areas. The scale of the exercise requires coordination between Returning Officers, polling staff and other officials before September 28.
Election staff to vote on September 22-23
Tripura VC polls will include a separate voting arrangement for government personnel who cannot vote at their assigned polling stations because of election duties. The facility covers civil officials, police personnel, Tripura State Rifles personnel and others deployed for the election process.
According to Sen, eligible staff must use Form 15 to seek the facility. The concerned Returning Officers will process the applications and issue ballot papers so that the officials can vote on September 22 and 23.
The arrangement allows election workers to exercise their franchise before they report for duties on the main polling day. It also helps election authorities avoid a conflict between their deployment responsibilities and their right to vote.
Training continues across polling areas
Tripura VC polls are also moving forward with training for polling personnel in different blocks. The first round of randomisation has been completed, followed by the first phase of training, according to the SEC.
The second phase of training is targeted for completion by September 22. This timeline places the final training stage alongside the scheduled voting period for election-duty staff.
Randomisation helps assign polling personnel to different locations as part of the election management process. The SEC is therefore handling training and deployment preparations while ballot printing continues at the Government Press.
Polls cover 587 Village Committees
The September 28 election will cover 587 Village Committees under the TTAADC. The poll schedule announced by the SEC covers 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats, with voting scheduled from 7 am to 4 pm.
The electorate stands at about 9.62 lakh voters, while 1,550 polling stations have been established for the exercise. Voting will be conducted by secret ballot, and the SEC has scheduled counting for October 5.
The election follows a long gap in Village Committee polls. The previous elections were held in 2016, while the tenure of the elected committees ended in March 2021. The SEC’s current schedule is intended to complete the electoral process by October 8, subject to any required repolling.
Final preparations ahead of polling day
Tripura VC polls have now entered the final stretch of preparations, with ballot printing, training and voting arrangements for election-duty personnel progressing at the same time. Security planning has also been reviewed by state election authorities and district officials ahead of polling.
For election-duty staff, September 22 and 23 will provide the scheduled opportunity to vote before their field assignments begin. For other voters, the main polling date remains September 28.
