In a disappointing turn of events, President Droupadi Murmu’s much-anticipated visit to Diphu in Assam had to be cancelled due to inclement weather. The President was scheduled to grace the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival, a significant cultural event in the region.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing the media at the venue, expressed regret over the cancellation, attributing it to the adverse weather conditions. He revealed that dense clouds over the hills of Karbi Anglong posed challenges for the President’s helicopter to make a safe landing. Even Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria faced a similar fate, being unable to attend the festival due to the weather.

“People had gathered to hear the honorable President’s speech and enjoy the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival. But there was a very dense cloud today over the hills of Karbi Anglong. She could have come from Shillong but could not make a landing at Karbi Anglong. The Governor also could not make it from Guwahati. The President also could not come over from Shillong,” explained CM Sarma, highlighting the logistical challenges imposed by the weather.

The Assam CM further informed the public that President Murmu had recorded a video message specifically for the event. Despite her physical absence, her recorded speech would be played in the evening for the audience gathered at the festival venue.

“It was disheartening as such a big event was being held. But the President has recorded her speech in Shillong and sent it to us. We will play it before the people today evening. And next time I will try my best to ensure the President reaches here,” reassured CM Sarma, emphasizing his commitment to facilitating the President’s future visits to the region.

Earlier reports indicated that President Murmu faced a four-hour delay in Shillong, Meghalaya, as her helicopter was unable to take off due to the challenging weather conditions. Her three-day visit to the northeast, which began on Monday in Guwahati, unfortunately, met with unexpected obstacles, underscoring the unpredictable nature of weather and its impact on crucial official engagements.
