In a tragic turn of events, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the grieving families of four individuals who fell victim to a shocking firing incident in Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur district. The incident, which took place on January 18, claimed the lives of four farmers, including a father and son duo.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media platform X to share photos of his visit. He affirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support to the affected families and ensuring justice for the victims. “Visited the families of the four departed souls in Ningthoukhong. I express my profound condolences to the grieving families. In this difficult time, I want to assure the affected families that the government is committed to providing all necessary support and apprehend the culprits and ensure justice is served for the incident,” said N Biren Singh.

The incident unfolded at around 3.45 pm on January 18 when armed miscreants, believed to be Kuki militants, descended from Lamlai Kabui village. They traveled over 2 km to a water supply plant in the middle of paddy fields, where they allegedly shot and killed the four civilians, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Tragically, the violence did not end there. On the same day, a village volunteer lost his life during a gunfight in Kangchup, Kangpokpi district. The deceased, identified as Takhellambam Manoranjan, 28, became a casualty in the ongoing unrest, with at least three others sustaining injuries.

Manipur’s Security Advisor, Kuldiep Singh, highlighted the concerning escalation of Kuki militants’ activities, targeting both innocent civilians and security forces across the state. Singh, in a press briefing at the CM Secretariat on January 18, discussed the Bishnupur firing incident, revealing that Kuki militants attacked three workers near a Naga village, leaving them seriously injured.

Despite these challenges, Singh reassured the public that security forces are on high alert, and concerted efforts are underway to tackle the situation. The government’s commitment to justice and the well-being of affected families remains steadfast, echoing Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s assurance during his visit to the bereaved households.

As Manipur grapples with these unsettling incidents, the call for collective efforts to maintain peace and security in the region becomes more urgent than ever. The government’s commitment to apprehending the culprits and ensuring justice reflects the resolve to restore normalcy and protect the well-being of its citizens.
