Nagaland tribal bodies raise concerns over Kisama privatisation

The Zubeen Garg justice campaign is set to intensify across Assam as the Zubeen Garg Nyay Dabi Samiti prepares statewide protests ahead of a crucial Supreme Court hearing on November 6. The forum plans fresh demonstrations to demand accountability in the case concerning the death of the popular Assamese singer.

The Samiti will hold a strategy meeting at Zubeen Khetra on October 25 to coordinate its next steps. Organisers aim to bring together representatives from different districts, supporters and members of the public to strengthen the campaign.

Zubeen Garg Justice Campaign Plans Statewide Agitation

The Zubeen Garg Nyay Dabi Samiti has decided to organise two to three major protests before the November 6 hearing. The forum also plans a mass rally at Zubeen Khetra to mobilise supporters from across Assam.

The decisions followed an online meeting of the Samiti’s conveners’ panel on October 22. Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi announced the upcoming meeting and appealed to people from all political backgrounds to participate.

Meanwhile, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti general secretary Bidyut Saikia also urged supporters across the state to join the mobilisation. The organisers have invited Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, to attend the October 25 discussions.

The meeting will focus on finalising the protest schedule and coordinating participation from different districts. The forum expects the proposed rally to draw thousands of people before the Supreme Court hearing.

November 6 Hearing Brings Fresh Focus on Bail Pleas

The planned agitation comes as the Supreme Court prepares to hear the bail pleas of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Sekhar Goswami on November 6. Both are accused in the case linked to Garg’s death in Singapore.

The singer died on September 19, 2025, during a swimming incident while on a yacht trip in Singapore. His death triggered widespread grief across Assam and renewed demands for a thorough investigation.

The Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team investigated the case and filed a chargesheet naming seven accused. Several face serious criminal charges, which remain subject to judicial proceedings.

However, the November 6 hearing will focus on the bail pleas before the Supreme Court. The court’s decisions will depend on the legal arguments and material presented during the proceedings.

The Samiti wants the authorities to pursue the case firmly and ensure accountability through the legal process.

Zubeen Garg Justice Campaign Seeks Action on Bail Orders

The forum has also decided to approach the Assam and Union governments with written representations on October 25. It plans to seek intervention to challenge bail granted to accused in the case.

Two accused, Amritprava Mahanta and suspended police officer Sandipon Garg, recently secured bail from the Gauhati High Court. Their release has intensified public criticism and renewed calls for further legal action.

The campaign organisers want the government to pursue available legal remedies against the bail orders. They have also indicated that they may seek the presence of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta at the Supreme Court hearing, if required.

Additionally, the Samiti plans to take a collective pledge opposing bail for accused persons and demanding action against those who have already received relief from the courts.

These demands reflect the forum’s position. However, bail remains a judicial decision, and the accused are entitled to due process under the law.

Recent Protests Increase Pressure on Assam Government

The latest mobilisation follows protests in Guwahati over the release of two accused. On October 20, police detained more than 100 protesters near the Assam Secretariat after authorities prevented a planned demonstration.

The protesters demanded justice for Garg and stronger legal action in the case. The episode highlighted growing public frustration over the progress of the proceedings and the recent bail decisions.

The Assam government has indicated that it intends to challenge the bail orders in the Supreme Court. The proposed legal action comes amid demands from political leaders, supporters and other groups for accountability.

Meanwhile, the Samiti wants the government to strengthen its efforts and ensure that the prosecution presents its case effectively. Organisers have also called for strict punishment for those found guilty, in accordance with the law.

Statewide Zubeen Garg Justice Campaign Builds Momentum

The October 25 meeting is expected to shape the next phase of the Zubeen Garg justice campaign. Representatives from across Assam will discuss how to coordinate demonstrations and sustain public participation before November 6.

The forum has stressed that the movement will continue until those responsible for the singer’s death are held accountable through the legal process.

For many supporters, the campaign represents a wider demand for transparency and justice in a case that has deeply affected Assam’s cultural community.

The coming days will test the organisers’ ability to turn public support into coordinated statewide action. At the same time, the Supreme Court hearing will mark another important stage in the ongoing legal proceedings.
