Arunachal Pradesh BJP MLA Jambey Tashi passed away at the age of 48 after a short illness, the family said today. Tashi was the brother of Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu and leaves behind his wife, two daughters, and a son.

Tashi took his final breath at Down Town Hospital in Guwahati, Assam in the early hours of Wednesday.

Tashi was a three-time BJP MLA from the Lumla constituency of Tawang district. He served as an advisor to Arunachal’s Minister for Planning and Investment.

“Demise of brother Shri Jambey Tashi Ji, Hon MLA of Lumla Assembly Constituency is a huge personal loss to me and I am so deeply pained at this tragedy,” Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said.

“I join the family in my prayers for the departed. Dear Brother, may you attain the supreme bliss of Nirvana,” Khandu tweeted.

The Chief Minister said the once remote and underdeveloped constituency of Lumla has now become one of the most developed in the state. “You have to see Lumla and its adjoining areas to realize the transformation that Tashi brought,” Mr. Khandu said.

Tashi’s remains will be transported to Lumla in Arunachal Pradesh by helicopter from Guwahati, Assam.
