To inspect the condition of Joymala, an elephant from Assam, who became the victim of cruelty in a temple in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu, The Himanta Biswa Sarma government has decided to send a team.
Assam Government has taken this decision to inspect the condition of the victim elephant and in case of any evidence of cruelty found the government will take every possible measure to bring Joymala back to the state.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated the government would bring back every elephant from the state to other states if it recover any evidence of cruelty with these elephants. CM Sarma also stated that he is personally in touch with the CM of Tamil Nadu.
The victim elephants and cruelty captured attention on the 27 of August when a video of Joymala, an elephant from Assam, witnessed being tortured by the mahouts in a temple complex in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, released on Twitter by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), got viral.
Assam CM Sarma has now decided to send a team to Tamil Nadu to inspect the condition of the elephant and eight other elephants transported from Assam to Tamil Nadu.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said during an interview “It is not about just one elephant. Our government is committed towards rescuing other captive elephants from Assam if they are subjected to cruelty. But at the moment we are verifying the claims of cruelty”.
