Manik Saha Likely to Take Oath on March 8

Manik Saha is ready to take oath as the Chief Minister of Tripura for the second term. It has been informed by the BJP that the next cabinet will take oath on March 8. On Friday (March 3), he submitted his resignation as Chief Minister to Governor SN Arya at Raj Bhavan. However, he will serve as the caretaker Chief Minister of Tripura till the new government is sworn in. After submitting the resignation letter, Manik Saha said, “I have submitted my resignation letter to the Governor. He asked me to continue as Chief Minister till the new government is formed. The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on March 8.”

On Thursday itself, the results of the Tripura Assembly elections were declared. The BJP-IPFT alliance won 33 seats in the 60-seat assembly and won a clear majority. They have retained power in Tripura for the second consecutive term. Tripura’s newest political party Pradyot Devavarma-led Tipra Motha Party has won 13 seats in its first election. On the other hand, the Left-Congress alliance won 14 seats. Trinamool Congress contested in 28 seats and could not win even one.
