Guwahati, Meghalaya – In a significant breakthrough, the East Jaintia Hills Police in Meghalaya successfully apprehended seven individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of marijuana in two separate incidents on June 19. The operations, carried out with meticulous planning and precision, dealt a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.

Acting on credible intelligence, the police conducted coordinated raids at multiple locations, resulting in the arrest of the seven suspects involved in the illegal drug activities. The combined efforts of the law enforcement agencies led to the seizure of a staggering 252.30 kilograms of marijuana, valued at a significant amount in the black market.

The first incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when a specialized team from the East Jaintia Hills Police swooped down on a suspected drug den in Guwahati. During the operation, four individuals were apprehended, and a sizeable quantity of marijuana, weighing 156.20 kilograms, was seized. The raid not only disrupted an active drug operation but also dealt a significant blow to the supply chain of narcotics in the area.

In a parallel operation later that day, the police targeted another location in Guwahati, leading to the arrest of three additional individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. This operation yielded a seizure of 96.10 kilograms of marijuana, further denting the illicit market in the region. The successful back-to-back operations underscore the dedication and effectiveness of the East Jaintia Hills Police in curbing drug-related offenses.

The seized marijuana, with an estimated street value running into several lakhs, is a testament to the scale of the illicit drug trade in the region. The East Jaintia Hills Police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, is intensifying its efforts to dismantle such networks, disrupt the supply chains, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The apprehended individuals are currently in police custody and will face charges under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The East Jaintia Hills Police will continue to investigate the case to unravel the entire network and identify any potential connections to larger drug cartels operating in the region.
