Starting this academic session, government colleges in Meghalaya will introduce student uniforms to promote equality, discipline, and unity among students. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma made the announcement, stating that the policy will help reduce the visible economic divide in campuses and instil a sense of belonging among students.
The new policy will apply to undergraduate students in all state-run government colleges. While many private institutions already have uniforms, this marks the first time public colleges in the state will implement a dress code. According to the minister, the decision aims to standardize student appearance without compromising individuality.
