Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhary on Saturday accused the ruling BJP and its alliance partner, Tipra Motha, of engaging in a “competition of corruption.” He claimed that both parties have failed to deliver on their promises and are instead focused on looting public resources. Speaking at a press conference, Chaudhary said that corruption has become rampant in the state under the BJP-led government and that Tipra Motha, which had initially claimed to fight for tribal rights, has also joined in the misdeeds.

He alleged that BJP leaders are using government projects and schemes to benefit their close associates while ignoring the needs of the common people. According to him, developmental projects are being sanctioned without transparency, and funds meant for welfare initiatives are being siphoned off. He also criticized Tipra Motha, stating that the party has abandoned its original cause and is now prioritizing personal gains over the welfare of the indigenous communities.

Chaudhary pointed out that despite repeated promises of job creation, unemployment continues to rise in Tripura. He accused the government of misleading the youth with false assurances while failing to implement meaningful policies. He also alleged that various recruitment processes are riddled with irregularities, allowing only those with political connections to secure positions.

He further stated that public infrastructure projects, including road construction and healthcare facilities, are suffering due to mismanagement and corruption. According to him, contractors with political backing are being awarded projects without proper bidding processes, resulting in substandard work and delays in execution. He cited several instances where projects were inaugurated with much fanfare but remained incomplete due to fund misallocation.

Chaudhary also attacked the ruling party over alleged corruption in the distribution of ration and other essential services. He claimed that government-run welfare schemes are being manipulated for political gains and that funds meant for the poor are being diverted. He accused BJP leaders of using these schemes as a tool to secure votes while ignoring the real issues affecting people.

Regarding law and order, Chaudhary alleged that crimes in the state have increased under the BJP regime. He claimed that incidents of political violence and intimidation have risen and that those involved in such activities are receiving protection from influential leaders. He also accused Tipra Motha of turning a blind eye to these issues in exchange for political benefits.

The Leader of Opposition called for an independent inquiry into the alleged financial misdeeds of the BJP-led government and its allies. He urged the people of Tripura to remain vigilant and not fall for the deceptive promises of those in power. He also said that his party would continue to expose corruption and fight for the rights of the people.

In response to Chaudhary’s allegations, BJP leaders dismissed the claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated. They accused the opposition of trying to mislead the public ahead of elections and claimed that the government remains committed to development and transparency. Tipra Motha, too, refuted the charges, stating that it remains dedicated to the cause of tribal welfare and is working towards improving governance in the state.

As the political battle in Tripura intensifies, the exchange of accusations between the ruling and opposition parties continues. While Chaudhary insists that corruption is at its peak, the ruling dispensation maintains that its governance model is delivering progress. The people of Tripura will ultimately decide whose claims hold merit.
