Tripura has secured the top rank in the Northeast for implementing the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar-powered irrigation. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the achievement on Friday and praised the state’s progress in clean and sustainable energy.

The PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme aims to replace diesel irrigation pumps with subsidised solar pumps. As a result, farmers can reduce fuel expenses and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Strong Push for Clean Energy in Agriculture

While celebrating the recognition, Dr. Saha said the achievement reflects the government’s commitment to rural development.
“Tripura has secured the first position in the Northeast in PM-KUSUM implementation. It is a shining example of sustainable progress,” he wrote on social media.

Moreover, the scheme has been implemented through the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Authority (TREDA). The agency provides solar pumps at highly subsidised rates. Consequently, farmers are saving on irrigation costs and avoiding diesel price fluctuations.

The chief minister said, “Today, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath ji received the prestigious award from Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi ji during the Regional Workshop held in Guwahati.”

Benefits Reaching Rural Farmers

With the introduction of solar pumps, many farmers in Tripura now enjoy more reliable irrigation. In addition, solar power supports cultivation in remote areas where electricity supply often remains unstable.
As a result, agricultural activities have become more efficient and eco-friendly. This move also supports India’s broader climate goals by lowering rural carbon emissions.

Government Receives Award in Guwahati

Furthermore, the Union Ministry of Renewable Energy recognised Tripura’s performance during a regional workshop in Guwahati.
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath accepted the award from Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Along with him, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and TREDA Joint Director Debasish Sukladas were also present at the ceremony, which highlighted the state’s consistent efforts in renewable-energy adoption.

Driving Tripura Toward a Greener Future

Overall, Tripura’s success under the PM-KUSUM scheme marks a major milestone in its renewable-energy journey. The initiative continues to empower farmers, reduce fossil-fuel dependency, and strengthen rural resilience.

Going forward, the state plans to expand solar coverage and encourage more farmers to adopt sustainable irrigation systems. With continuous government support and rising awareness, Tripura is emerging as a strong clean-energy leader in the Northeast.
