A dreaded criminal and a rape accused named Gerejai Barua alias Raju Barua on Thursday, August 17 was mob lynched and killed by locals of Kilakili village in Assam’s district Lakhimpur. Gerejai was on the list of some of the most wanted dreaded criminals of the said district of Assam and escaped from the police custody from a Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Dhakuakhana on Tuesday, 16th of August along with two other criminals. One of the two others was nabbed again by the police on Wednesday.
The Assam govt on Thursday, August 18th announced its initiative of sending 1000 students on a research study tour to one of India’s oldest jails, the Kala Pani officially known as the cellular Jail. Situated in the island territory of Andaman & Nicobar the Cellular Jail was a remarkable witness of India’s 190 years of struggle for freedom and independence.
Lachit Basumatary, an official of the Assam Education Department, was arrested on Wednesday, 17th August allegedly for demanding bribe from a woman for processing her post-transfer-related works.
In a rather proud moment for the 6th Battalion of Assam Rifles also known as the Khonsa Battalion, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh – Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today on 17th August awarded the said battalion of the prestigious security force with the Government’s Citation for their “conspicuous proficiency, elan, and sagacity in counter-insurgency operations”
