In a profound declaration, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein asserted that the Northeast wouldn’t be a part of India today without the contributions of Bir Lachit Barphukan. The statement was made during Mein’s address as the chief guest at the 401st birth anniversary celebration of Bir Lachit, organized by Kala Niketan in collaboration with the State Level Advisory Committee, Students, and Youth Welfare at Maduripathar Lachit Samannya Kshetra in Silapathar.

Lachit Barphukan’s Enduring Legacy

Chowna Mein, expressing the need for wider recognition of Lachit Barphukan’s pivotal role in history, highlighted the courage, bravery, resolution, and love for the motherland exhibited by this iconic figure. Mein emphasized that Lachit Barphukan, through strategic brilliance, played a crucial role in saving Assam from the clutches of the Mughal invasion.

Call for Regional Development and Empowerment

Mein urged the Northeastern states to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving full economic development in the region by 2047. He stressed that the legacy of Lachit would live on through a focus on development and empowerment. Special appreciation was extended to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his developmental initiatives and efforts to restore harmony and brotherhood in the region.

Unity Amidst Diversity in Northeast India

The Deputy CM acknowledged the unique harmony among various ethnic groups, specifically citing the contributions of Tai-origin tribes such as Ahom, Khamti, Phake, Aiton, Turung, and Khamyang. Despite linguistic and cultural diversity, these communities have coexisted harmoniously, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Immortalizing Lachit’s Contributions

Mein applauded the Assam government for initiatives like the Bir Lachit Best Cadet Award at the Pre-National Defense Academy and the celebration of ‘Lachit Divas’ as a state calendar event marking his birth anniversary. He stressed the importance of wider recognition for Lachit Barphukan’s pivotal role in shaping the history of the region.

Book Release and Distinguished Attendees

During the event, a book titled ‘Mahayodha Lachit,’ dedicated to the iconic Assam warrior was released. The celebration witnessed the presence of notable personalities, including MP (Lok Sabha) Pradan Boruah, ministers Bimal Borah and Jogen Mohan, MLA Jonai Bhubon Pegu, Indian sprinter Hima Das, and Arjuna Award Winner Nayanmoni Saikia.
