Masked Men: Unidentified Armed Men Execute Daring Heist

In a troubling incident, three masked men, armed with sophisticated weapons, targeted a Tamil family in Moreh, Manipur, the last town before Myanmar’s border on the south. The perpetrators, riding a Myanmar-made Kenbo bike without a registration number, forcefully entered the residence of Chouhan Bihari at Dalpati Tamil temple, located in Moreh Ward number 2, around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The armed men, suspected to be from the Chin-Kuki community, brandished weapons and looted a significant amount of Rs. 2 lakh in cash from the Tamil family. The incident unfolded with the invaders taking the money at gunpoint, instilling fear and panic in the household. In addition to the cash, the assailants also snatched a mobile phone from the family before making their escape.

Upon receiving information about the robbery, a team from the Moreh police station, led by its Additional Superintendent of Police, promptly arrived at the scene to investigate. However, despite the police’s presence, the victim, Chouhan Bihari, hesitated to lodge a formal complaint, expressing concerns for his safety and well-being.

Ongoing Crisis and Fleeing Residents

The backdrop of this incident unfolds in the midst of an ongoing crisis in the state, leading to the exodus of Tamil residents from Moreh. Fearing for their lives, a considerable number of Tamil individuals have fled their homes, reducing their population from approximately 7,000 to around 3,000 presently. The situation has created an atmosphere of insecurity and tension in the border town.
